Yosemite part 2

The next stop in the park (and an EV charging point!) is a heritage village.

Lots of good old-timey stuff here.

We're regaled with the story of how soldiers fresh from the civil war are brought in to move the indigenous to a reservation, but instead mostly ended up warring with them more.

The government realises this was a bad idea and pulls them out again, later bringing in a group of black soldiers that have liaised with the indigenous previously elsewhere. Being black with curly hair, they reminded the locals of buffalo, and so the term 'Buffalo Soldier' was born, right here.

The locals were eventually, safely, moved to a reservation. This was all possible because they never claimed the land, which had particular legal consequences, and sounds pretty similar to our own country to be honest.

We've charged up to 51%, and hit the road. This must be what range anxiety feels like.

As we drive on, the remnants of a forest fire from a couple years ago are visible everywhere. Skeleton trees, as they're called, will hang around for years to come.
