Our first full day, we head to the Maritime Museum, and board the USS Dolphin, a submarine!
This U-boat was primarily used for research and testing of technologies that are now common on submarines - a pioneer of the depths. It's very cramped but amazing to see in person.
We take a cruise around the bay and learn more about the area. San Diego actually has a huge naval presence, and is home to many vessels of the 7th fleet - the Pacific fleet.
Around the bay are no less than three aircraft carriers, two of which are active (of the 10 active total), and the third a museum, which we visit the next day. Various destroyers and support vessels are nearby in the shipyards, but we can't get close enough for good pictures, for obvious reasons.
There's probably 50billion in boats here, the carriers alone being at least 7billion each. It's awe inspiring to see the force on hand here.
We find the famous 'Embrace Peace' monument along the promenade and take some cheesy photos.
Together with Jen, we hit up the local disc golf course for some wholesome fun. Nearby Balboa park hosts a pro-shop where we pick up a disc and pay our course fees.
We have ramen for dinner, and call time on this very long day.
